LANDMARK TOWER / U2 STUDIO. COMPETITION REPORT The image by the piers appears as a vertical landscape figure: a singular piling of hybrid and mixed activities and possibilities, where the building could relate to its inhabitants, allowing them to change the relationships and the way the tower is perceived by the city. Visitors will cross over the roofs and the tower, and circulate along the central space of the set. The entrance building is thought as an artificial landscape, where the roofs become pedestrian promenades and open air spaces. The construction process is thought as an industrial assembling, mixing the heavy-industries past and the new heterogeneus present. The structure is conceived as a continous concrete surface, which defines the requested spaces, in accordance with all the complex spacial situations. An aluminium skin generates the external enclosure, which protects from the direct sunlight, offers transparencies, and establishes a changing relationship with the landscape. So the tower will become part of the daily sunlight effects, shining with the rays of light and turning into a lamp in the sunset, as a new landmark in the Dublin pier. |
